2011 - 2012 Motivation
The wider objective of the project was to give advice and guidance to Ettore Piras architectural team in optimising the design of the museum taking into account the climate conditions and local needs of Paraguay. The energy and comfort optimisation work carried out suggested possible improvements to architects and installation engineers with a view to constructing sustainable and efficient buildings.
Results
The specific sections of the project were:
- Analysis of local climate conditions
- Analysis of sunlight and shade.
- Identification of energy benefits and limitations of the baseline design of the museum.
- Architectural diagnosis and lighting analysis in order to design optimal solar protections.
- Detailed construction and insulation material features for walls, roofs and glass envelopes.
- Detailed HVAC and renewable systems proposals.
- Diagnosis of the energy performance of the buildings.
- Selection of materials in order to minimise their environmental impact.
- Benchmarking of LEED certified museums around the world.
- Technical assistance in the executive project.
