Motivation

The aim of the project is a global reflection and an analysis process for the sustainable development of the deltaic area surrounding Barcelona. There are several elements which need to be territorially included into city development, such as the Port, the Montjuïc sea front and the Llobregat deltaic area.

In order to achieve the general objective proposed, three different products were developed over three years:

  • Design of workshops on the territorial, environmental and social environment of the Port of Barcelona and its natural surrounding areas.

The aim of this part is to define the main challenges of the Port and its surroundings in order to support the design of projectable territorial solutions. As a result of five discussion sessions, the reflections of ERF and BR were summarised in a single document.

  • Mont Montjuïc programme of uses

This product was aimed at encouraging the incorporation of the coastal part of the mountain, traditionally neglected as a public space, as a site of interest in Barcelona, given natural and cultural qualities. The initiative also had a communication dimension, forming part of a multiple exhibition with other projects on the same lines

  • Estimate of external environmental and social costs to the industrial sector of the Llobregat Delta.

The purpose of the task is to develop a dynamic tool to evaluate the current and future externalities generated by industry. The task also enabled analysis of scenarios at different levels: smallholdings, sectors, or the entire environment. It was also possible to analyse the external costs of many different industrial development scenarios.

Results

1) Workshops

  • Information and data compilation.
  • Detailed planning of the contents of the five workshops.
  • Development of a two-hour presentation for each workshop, including a discussion of the topic between ERF representatives and the client.
  • Production of a conclusion report for each session, as well as an integrated report with general conclusions.

2) Programme of uses

  • Information and data compilation.
  • Identification of current users, challenges and opportunities.
  • Design of the programme of uses.

3) external industrial costs

  • Selection of the method for calculating externalities, taking into account sensitivity and reliability
  • Generation of the tool, consisting of a database that enables the information provided to be periodically updated.
  • Analysis report and tool user manual.
